Scope of the Role
As the Digital Print Operator, you will operate and maintain a suite of six production machines, including three HP DesignJet printers for digital art reproduction, two Mimaki UCJV printers for custom wallpaper production, and a Mimaki JFX200 Flatbed for printing onto a wide range of substrates such as wood, acrylic, metal, and glass. You will collaborate closely with the production, design, and framing teams to ensure exceptional colour accuracy, efficient workflow, and consistently high-quality output across all materials.
Responsibilities
- Run and monitor all print jobs, ensuring they meet the required technical and aesthetic standards.
- Maintain strict colour accuracy, resolution, and finish quality across varied media.
- Keep job documentation, samples, and records organised and complete.
- Manage print queues and production priorities to meet deadlines.
- Oversee media ordering, stock levels, and allocation to avoid shortages or overstocking.
- Track and manage consumables to support efficient production.
- Prepare and check artwork files to ensure they are print-ready, profiling as required.
- Handle pre‑press work for catalogue items with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Carry out finishing tasks including vinyl preparation, trimming, and mural finishing.
- Support the finishing team with specialist print tasks when needed.
- Conduct routine cleaning, calibrations, and scheduled maintenance on all machines.
- Liaise with external service providers for repairs or advanced servicing.
- Coordinate overflow work or standardised print runs with trusted external suppliers.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with vendors and internal teams.
- Identify opportunities to refine workflows, reduce waste, improve efficiency, and elevate output consistency.
Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience in digital print production, large‑format printing, or similar environment.
- Strong understanding of pre‑press processes, media types, colour management, and print machinery.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and RIP software.
- Confident troubleshooting print issues with a practical, solutions‑focused mindset.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities.
- Effective communication skills for internal collaboration and supplier coordination.
