Estimator / Draughtsperson

The Company
An established engineering and manufacturing business with a strong track record of delivering complex products for UK and international infrastructure projects is seeking an Estimator / Draughtsperson to join its growing team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects, ranging from one-off component designs to long‑term, multi‑phase engineering programmes. The position is office‑based and will involve close collaboration with engineering, production, and commercial teams.
The Job
- Analyse customer requirements and prepare accurate estimate bids in line with project objectives and deadlines
- Review technical documentation and budgets to ensure completeness and compliance
- Liaise with engineers and designers to understand design intent and provide technical input to manufacturing teams
- Produce detailed cost estimates, including raw materials, subcontractor pricing, labour, and equipment costs
- Compile and maintain accurate bids, quotations, and supporting data for internal stakeholders
- Apply engineering principles and materials knowledge to assess feasibility of manufacture and construction
- Communicate directly with customers to clarify requirements and ensure quotation accuracy
- Estimate fabrication times in collaboration with production teams to maintain efficiency and appropriate methodologies
- Incorporate value engineering principles where possible during the design and estimating process
- Prioritise enquiries effectively to support high levels of customer satisfaction
- Liaise with external suppliers, subcontractors, designers, and structural engineers as required
- Participate in project and production meetings to ensure delivery on time and within budget
- Maintain accurate records and ensure drawing revisions and changes are controlled and documented
The Person
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following :
- Proven experience in steel estimating, ideally within a shop‑floor or manufacturing environment
- Experience of major steel or infrastructure‑related construction projects is highly desirable
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of industry standards and best practices
- High level of computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Excel (including formulas and spreadsheet development)
