Job description

Warwickshire Registration Service is at the heart of life’s most meaningful moments. We provide a vital statutory service, registering births, deaths, and stillbirths across Warwickshire, and ensuring every life event is recorded with care and accuracy. Our team also handles legal notices of marriage and civil partnership for Warwickshire residents, and we maintain historical records and produce copy certificates on application.

We proudly deliver around 2,800 marriage and civil partnership ceremonies every year - from our own beautiful registration office venues to more than 80 licensed venues approved by the Registration Service. We also deliver citizenship ceremonies and complete the registration of religious marriages that have taken place throughout the county. Every ceremony is a celebration, and we love being part of these special occasions.

What makes us truly stand out? Our people. In our recent staff survey, team members told us they’re proud to work here, feel valued and recognised for their contributions, and are supported by managers to do their best work. High engagement scores reflect the passion and dedication behind everything we do.

If you want a career that combines purpose, people, and pride - come and be part of something truly meaningful with Warwickshire Registration Service.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Deputy Superintendent Registrar to join our team on a zero-hour basis, providing cover at our offices in Nuneaton and Rugby.

You’ll help us deliver an exceptional service during planned holiday cover and, occasionally, at short notice for sickness. The role is suited to people who are available Monday to Friday and can work flexibly. We cannot guarantee any hours, and you’ll be paid a month in arrears for the time you work, with an enhanced hourly rate that includes holiday pay.

As a Deputy Superintendent Registrar, you will play a key role in delivering a professional and seamless registration service. Your responsibilities will include providing guidance to couples, ensuring compliance with all legal preliminaries, and managing the associated documentation with accuracy and discretion. You will officiate ceremonies for marriages, civil partnerships, naming ceremonies, and renewal of vows, conducting each occasion with dignity and professionalism. Additionally, you will oversee the reconciliation of fees and maintain the highest standards of service throughout all processes.

This is more than just a job - it’s a chance to be part of a team that cares deeply about people and their stories. If you’re organised, approachable, and love making a difference, we’d love to hear from you!

Key Requirements

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring strong administrative and customer service experience, supported by a good standard of education. Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written - are essential, along with neat, legible handwriting and the ability to work accurately with great attention to detail.

You’ll be comfortable working as part of a team and equally confident using your own initiative. Resilience, flexibility, and the ability to handle sensitive information with tact and diplomacy are key. Strong planning and organisational skills will help you manage your time effectively and perform well under pressure.

Good IT skills are required, and you should be willing to attend relevant training to keep your knowledge up to date.
