Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse Critical Care

Adult Critical Care are looking to employ a motivated and conscientious experienced nurse to join our friendly and dynamic multi professional team caring for critically ill patients and their families. You will have a broad experience and insight into caring for acutely unwell patients and their families. You will have the ability to lead a team, prioritise and respond to planned and unplanned situations and ensure the smooth and efficient running of the unit.

Successful candidates will be expected to work across site as needed. They will also be required to work both days and night shifts as well as participating in the cross site rotation programme.

You must lead the team in developing critical care by promoting excellence and innovative thinking.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work under pressure in a stressful environment with complex situations.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will act as deputy to the Unit sister/charge nurse and will be required to:

  • Act as the deputy to the Unit sister/charge nurse regularly taking charge of the unit and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.
  • Be an effective leader and role model and provide regular direct clinical care, using experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance.
  • Work flexibly as a member of the unit team and support the Unit Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated, and where necessary improved.

Training and Qualifications
  • Degree in health/nursing related studies or equivalent level of study.
  • Current level one NMC registration.
  • Relevant post‑basic diploma in Critical Care Specialist Pathway.
  • Possession of a Mentoring Course NMC.
  • Formal leadership and management training/course.
Experience
  • 4 years minimum experience at Band 5 within the acute setting, 2 of which must be within critical care.
  • Supervision of non‑registered staff, pre‑registration and post‑basic students.
  • Ability to manage the clinical area efficiently and effectively.
  • Evidence of leadership, management & time management skills.
  • Demonstrate involvement in link nurse or project work.
  • Providing staff with feedback on their individual performance and use of the knowledge and skills framework.
Communication and Relationship
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy.
  • Can minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication.
  • Evidence of negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrate evidence of providing formal teaching sessions.
