A regional mental health charity is seeking a Deputy Service Manager to co-lead the Swindon Wellbeing team. The ideal candidate will ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care and drive innovations in service improvements. Responsibilities include managing and supporting staff, fostering relationships with stakeholders, and implementing best practices. The role requires excellent leadership, organizational skills, and a strong understanding of mental health services. This position is essential for enhancing care quality and community support in Swindon.
As a Deputy Service Manager, you will work closely with the Swindon Wellbeing team providing guidance and support, as well as line management responsibilities. You will inform the future direction and development of the Swindon Wellbeing Specialist services, working closely with the Service Manager and Senior Leadership Team.
In this role, you will co‑lead and support the development of your team alongside the Service Manager, ensuring the delivery of recovery‑focused, high‑quality, safe, and person‑centred care that drives meaningful outcomes for the people who use our services.
You will play a key part in shaping the future direction of Swindon Wellbeing Services, working collaboratively with Directors and Commissioners both within the organisation and externally. With a strong focus on innovation, you will help lead the implementation of service improvements, embedding best practices and driving continuous quality enhancement.
You will build and maintain strong, effective relationships with key referrers, including Primary Care Networks and Secondary Care Services, ensuring open, two‑way engagement with stakeholders across the locality. Your understanding of local assets and resources will enable the development of holistic and flexible, place‑based support structures that are responsive to the needs of the local community.
As a leader, you’ll ensure staff are consistently supported and developed through a blend of on‑the‑job coaching, regular supervision, and appraisals, proactively identifying and addressing learning and development needs to build a confident and capable team.

Co‑lead and develop your team in partnership with the Service Manager, delivering recovery‑focused, high‑quality, safe, and person‑centred care that achieves positive outcomes for people using the service.

Attend and contribute to regular team meetings to maintain effective communication and awareness of progress and development within the organisation and in mental health services in general.
Be prepared for, attend, and engage in staff meetings, supervision, appraisal and training as agreed with the wider organisation and your line manager.
To work closely with the Management and Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Champion innovation and co‑lead the implementation of service enhancements, supporting the adoption of change, best practice, and continuous improvement.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key referrers, including Primary Care Networks and Secondary Care Services, fostering meaningful two‑way engagement with stakeholders.
Understand and build upon local assets and resources to enable holistic and flexible, place‑based support structures that are responsive to local needs.
Ensure all staff are consistently supported and developed through on‑the‑job coaching, individual supervision, group supervision, and appraisals promptly identifying and addressing learning and development needs.
Produce regular outcome reports to demonstrate service effectiveness and identify gaps in provision.
Take an active role in staff recruitment, including participating in interview panels and leading the induction of new Swindon staff.
Oversee the recruitment and induction of volunteers, including participation in interview panels.
Participate in the on‑call rota to provide support to staff across Swindon & Gloucestershire Mind services when required.
Attend meetings related to the Sanford House building and those relevant to commissioned contracts.
Conduct safety assessments for service areas, ensuring appropriate use of the safety assessment framework.
Investigate incidents reported by staff or service users and ensure outcomes are followed up in line with S&G Mind policies and procedures.
Manage complaints made under the Swindon Borough Council Wellbeing contract, following appropriate procedures and organisational policies.
Undertake investigations in line with relevant policies, such as complaints and HR procedures.
Ensure that risk is assessed and managed appropriately by all staff, in line with service user needs and service policies.
Ensure that all lone working arrangements are in place and consistently followed.
Act as the Safeguarding Lead for adults and children within the Swindon Wellbeing Service.
Act as the Health & Safety Officer for the Swindon Wellbeing Service.
Ensure accurate and detailed records are kept and to comply with data protection procedures.
Work with colleagues to ensure effective internal systems including but not limited to maintenance of records and GDPR compliance.
General administrative duties to include data collection, monitoring and reporting outcomes.
Ensure ICT systems and data recording systems are used appropriately in line with the organisation's policies and procedures.
Use 'Views' database system or an alternative data software (as appropriate) to capture, track and monitor performance.
Ensure compliance with legal and health and safety regulations, such as the organisation's health and safety policy and procedure.
To liaise and network with relevant statutory and third sector organisations.
To promote the service to high‑risk groups by linking in with external agencies to build relationships and promote the service offer.
Promote the organisation to the local community and other organisations.
To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies.
To carry out work in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures, current legislation and quality standards.
To keep up to date with the organisations policies and procedures.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
