Job description

Well if you do and are already a qualified and experienced Children’s Home Deputy Manager, we would love to hear from you. We currently have an opportunity within one of our Carlisle homes for a deputy home manager.

Salary: £32,000 to £36,500 depending on experience

Main Duties
  • Responsible for ensuring that our Statement of Purpose is regularly reviewed and updated when necessary, that is continually reflects the services provided by the company to young people in our home and demonstrates the qualification, experience and expertise of the staff who work within our home.
  • To be the link between senior managers/home manager and support workers. This will ensure communication and information flows efficiently and effectively between the two, from amendments to policies and procedures to new details in respect of risk assessments for the young people.
  • To be responsible for the effective management and development of a range of quality direct services to young people.
  • To provide vision and leadership to staff to ensure that staff follow all policies and procedures. This may include completing staff supervisions and appraisals alongside the home manager.
  • To ensure that staff training and development needs are identified and ensuring that those needs are met. You may be required to provide some training to staff as required.
  • To ensure that within the home all Health and Safety Regulations are complied with. To regularly inspect the home to ensure that all decorating and fittings remain to the highest standard and any repairs are highlighted as soon as possible.
  • To ensure that professional practice in the team is carried out to the highest standards and developed in line with the company ethos.
  • To manage a designated budget (as required) ensuring that the company achieves value for money in all circumstances through the monitoring and control of expenditure and the early identification of any financial irregularity.
Specifics of the role

This position is primarily a Monday to Friday role. However, weekend work will need to be undertaken on occasion or if the service requires this, as well as covering some DUTY. Due to company expansion there is scope for career development and progression in the near future as we open our next service.

All Applicants must have:
  • At least a Level 3 NVQ in Children in Residential Childcare or equivalent.
  • Experience of the deputy role for at least one year and experience of residential childcare of at least 3 years.
  • A good understanding of the challenges faced by our young people.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills and be able to work within a team.
  • An interest in further developing their knowledge.
  • A clean DBS check and be willing to undertake a DBS check at enhanced level if successful for the position. Your DBS check will be paid for by us but the update service fee will need to be met by you.
  • Have a full, clean UK driving licence and be able to cover at other residential homes as and when needed.
