Job description
Overview

Do you have a passion for working with children, but also enjoy management and administration tasks? Are you an organised and strong leader? Do you enjoy supporting staff to learn and develop? Do you have experience of working as a SENCO and supporting children with additional needs? We are recruiting for a Deputy Manager and SENCO at Play and Learn Day Nursery in the heart of Sutton Coldfield. This is a full-time role with some flexibility within the hours/days. The nursery manager works 4 days a week, so on one day a week you will be responsible for the nursery.

We are looking for a practitioner with experience of supporting a staff team and strong knowledge of the EYFS and working with parents and outside agencies to support each individual child. Good communication skills with children, parents and colleagues are required as well as the ability to lead a busy, thriving team. Successful applicants will also actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace, ensuring nursery policies and procedures are observed at all times. While knowledge of Birmingham safeguarding procedures is not essential, candidates must have embedded knowledge of safeguarding principles and how to adhere to EYFS requirements.

Here at Play and Learn we have a friendly, enthusiastic team who are loved and valued by the children and parents that we support and care for. Play and Learn is a family run business with the children at the heart of everything that we do.

Responsibilities
  • Support the nursery manager in day-to-day operations and lead on designated safeguarding and EYFS requirements.
  • Support staff development, coach and guide colleagues to meet the needs of each child.
  • Collaborate with parents and external agencies to support individual children and their plans.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Good level of education and at least a Level 3 childcare qualification that is “full and relevant”.
  • A SENCO qualification would be welcome but is not essential as training will be provided.
  • Experience of working as part of a staff team with strong knowledge of the EYFS.
  • Excellent communication skills with children, parents and colleagues.
Benefits
  • Excellent rates of pay and contributory pension.
  • Up to 28 days’ holiday entitlement including bank holidays and your birthday day off.
  • Additional entitlements/bonus for good attendance.
  • Free parking.
  • Flexibility in shift patterns/days.
  • Continuing professional development, training and support for all levels and qualifications.
  • An equal opportunities employer.
Other information
  • Committed to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. All roles are exempt from the provisions of Section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The role is in regulated activity and DBS (enhanced and check of the children’s barred list) and reference checks are made for all our staff. Please note that it is an offence to apply for the role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
