A children's care service provider in the UK seeks a Deputy Manager to support children aged 5-18 with diverse needs. Responsibilities include managing home operations, ensuring quality care, and leading the staff team. You should have excellent time management and organisational skills and ideally a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Care. Forevercare provide person centred support and care for children and young people between the ages of 5 and 18 years with a variety of different needs and requirements.
1. To work alongside the Registered Manager in managing the home in an efficient manner within the available resources, ensuring these are used to the best effect for the proper care of the children and running and maintenance of the home and the equipment therein
2. Requires excellent time management and organisational skills, with ability to take responsibility for own work load. You will assist with preparing and implementation and evaluation of individual care plans and systems etc
3. In conjunction with the Registered Manager be responsible for the arrangements of admission of children to the home in line with the policy and procedures
4. Ensure staff, both Senior and Residential Childcare Practitioners (including bank staff), are kept fully conversant by guidance, instruction and practice with all aspects of managing the home, so that they are able to take proper charge of the home in the normal course of their duties
5. To take appropriate action to ensure there is sufficient staff coverage at all times, within the agreed limits, to maintain the efficient and safe running of the home
6. Ensure efficient and known channels of communication for the dissemination of information, instructions and reporting back within the home and all staff are fully conversant with their duties, roles and responsibilities
7. Ensure that training needs are identified and monitored accurately to ensure the skills and experience of staff is in fitting with the needs of the home
8. Seek to maintain the maximum level of individuality and independence of the children commensurate with solo/group living, encourage communication and interaction within the home in order to broaden life opportunities and stimulate positive growth.
9. Ensure that all children receive proper medical, dental and all health care needs are met appropriate to their individual needs and that they are kept under regular planned review.
10. Comply at all times with the requirements of the company’s Standard Operating procedures insofar as they effect the home and the company, and to seek the advice of Management/Senior Management as appropriate on all matters where the proper course of action is uncertain and guidance is required.
11. Participate in reviews, meetings, case conferences etc as and when required.
12. Ensure that proper attention is given by staff to the health, safety and welfare matters throughout the home, including fire precautions, in order to minimise the risk of accidents and hurt or damage to children, staff, property and equipment.
13. Co-operate at all times with the differing social services departments, staff and other professionals in carrying out their duties and responsibilities. Insofar as they affect the home and the company, and to seek the advice of line management.
14. The Deputy Manager is expected to work 40 hours per week, you are expected to be flexible in your approach to this as on occasions you may be called upon to cover a shift, you must assist the Registered Manager and maintain a rota for the other members of staff, which, while meeting the home’s needs, must reflect the requirements for staff to have adequate and sufficient time off for themselves.
15. To be available to undertake on-call for advice, guidance and emergency situations.
16. To ensure there are systems in place and procedures are followed in all aspects of working in an Ofsted regulated children's home.
17. Behave at all times in a responsible manner, always bearing in mind the good name of the company and the home.
18. The Deputy Manager will perform any other duties required and directed by the company or Registered Manager to meet the changing needs of the home.
19. The Deputy Manager will be responsible for the induction of new staff, together with the Registered Manager.
20. To comply with company rules, respond to emergencies, work in accordance to the Quality Standards and care home regulations and cooperate with all inspection processes.
21. The Deputy Manager will be productive in building good relationships with referring agencies including assisting in the filling of any spaces the home has.
22. The Deputy will take overall management responsibilities in the absence of the Manager.
