Job description

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Dental Therapist Clinical Supervisor.

Job Summary

The post holder will work as part of the team responsible for the education of student dental therapists/hygienists within the School of Dental Therapy and Hygiene. The post holder will support the clinical supervision of a 6,000 per annum patient database across various sites and disciplines whilst maintaining the Trust's standards of quality in service delivery.

Main Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality dental treatment to patients.
  • Supervise student therapist/hygienists' clinical activity on clinics across all campuses of Kings Dental Institute and outreach placements.
  • Communicate complex medical/dental information in a manner that is understandable.
  • Ensure communication with other clinical colleagues to ensure consistent clinical practices.

Education and Training:

  • Contribute to academic and clinical programs delivered by KCL, with a focus on the undergraduate dental therapy and hygiene degree program.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures/tutorials to student dental therapists and hygienists.
  • Partake in all aspects of the academic, practical, and clinical assessment processes for the programs.

People Management and Performance:

  • Manage and motivate staff within the department to deliver and improve services.
  • Provide support for the department to manage expected and unexpected events.
  • Supervise and monitor students' rostering and skill mix to maximize effective delivery of an effective service.

Governance/Quality Control:

  • Comply with all Primary Care Dental Service clinical policies.
  • Undertake departmental educational quality assurance processes that meet the GDC Standards for Education 21 requirements and Preparing for Practice.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training organized by and for the School.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
  • Registered Dental Therapist.
  • Experience of working within the Primary Dental Care and/or Community Dental Service and/or Hospital settings.
  • Significant clinical experience.
  • Experience in teaching in Higher Education.
Skills and Competencies
  • Able to take instruction and direction and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to record and retrieve information on paper/electronic records as appropriate.
  • Evidence of reflective practice.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or BSc Dental Therapy and Hygiene.
  • Full registration with the GDC.
  • Higher Education teaching Qualification.
