A leading NHS Trust in the UK is seeking a Band 5 Dental Technician to produce high-quality dental restorations related to fixed prosthodontics. The role involves using CAD/CAM technology and requires strong communication and dexterity skills. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with clinical staff and students, manage workloads effectively, and maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization within the laboratory. To undertake the duties of a (Band 5) dental technician to clinical prescription producing dental technical restorations related to fixed prosthodontics. The vast majority of the work of this post holder will be the construction of fixed appliances.
The construction complete and partial fixed prostheses in acrylic, all‑ceramic, composite, cast dental alloys, composite and PEEK materials. Use of CAD/CAM technology to design and manufacture fixed prostheses.
To ensure that turnaround times are met. To escalate to the Laboratory Manager when turnaround targets are not being met.
Ensure that work produced by the laboratory is of the highest possible standard and meets the needs of the service users prescribing the work. To escalate any quality concerns to the Laboratory Manager. To escalate to Management any concerns around the quality or delivery of externally procured lab work.
To undertake any duties, commensurate to grade, that are required to ensure the smooth running of the service. You will be working in a close knit team of dental technicians, in a busy laboratory. There are opportunities for growth and development in a team willing to help and guide. The construction of a range of fixed appliances for clinical staff, postgraduate students and undergraduate students. To be familiar with CAD/CAM technology and its current role within dental technology. To be able to demonstrate specific skills i.e. high levels of dexterity and coordination using CAD/ CAM technology. To be able to scan and design removable appliances for periods of intense prolonged concentration using VDU equipment daily, whereby there may be a requirement for sitting in a restricted position for a substantial portion of time. Prioritise their own workload including planning for appliances and formulating adjustments where necessary. This will involve ensuring all appointment dates are met and the keeping of up-to-date records of all work allocated using correct laboratory protocols. All work to be produced in line with Medical Devices Regulations. Ability to communicate with staff and students. This will also mean spending time on consultant, postgraduate clinics unsupervised and may involve communicating with patients regarding shade taking with occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances. Assist with the routine day to day running of the laboratory and assist clinical and nursing staff with collection of completed work. Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of own work areas plus have responsibility for specific items of laboratory equipment and report defects in need of remedy to the Lead Technician.
