Job Summary

As a Rheumatology Specialist Pharmacy Technician, you will support rheumatology pharmacists in delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective clinical pharmacy services to rheumatology patients. Your role will involve managing prescription generation, particularly for homecare prescriptions, and overseeing the rheumatology medication advice line and email accounts to assist with patient and healthcare team queries.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Clinical Pharmacy Support: Aid rheumatology pharmacists in providing high-quality clinical pharmacy services to patients.
  2. Prescription Management: Oversee the generation of prescriptions for rheumatology medicines, focusing on homecare prescriptions.
  3. Patient and Team Communication: Manage the rheumatology medication advice line and email accounts, responding to queries appropriately.
  4. Medication Monitoring: Ensure the safe use of medicines by completing pre-treatment checks and arranging ongoing monitoring as directed by clinicians.
  5. Compliance Management: Utilize Blueteq to ensure adherence to NICE and NHSE funding pathways.
  6. General Pharmaceutical Assistance: Provide general assistance to the rheumatology team within your expertise, following the Rheumatology Pharmacy Team Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  7. Direct Patient Interaction: Communicate directly with patients to discuss medication issues and independently address queries via telephone, email, or face-to-face with inpatients and outpatients.
  8. Research and Development: Collaborate with the team to conduct audit research and develop enhanced pharmacy services within rheumatology.

DBS Check Requirement
  • Enhanced DBS Check: If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90, which will be deducted from your first Trust salary.
  • Standard DBS Check: A standard DBS check costing £21.90 will also be required, deducted from your first Trust salary.
  • DBS Update Service: As a condition of employment, you must join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
