Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our in‑house Endoscope Reprocessing team as a Decontamination Supervisor. Leading a shift of four, you will ensure all scopes are processed to the highest standards, managing and prioritising workflow to enable our service users to meet the demand of patient activity.

You will be experienced and qualified to undertake and oversee a testing regime, compliant with current regulations, ensuring safety and compliance in this hands‑on operational supervisory post.

We have ERUs (Endoscope Reprocessing Units) at St Mary’s Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital, with standard shift patterns being four ten‑hour days Monday to Friday, 0800‑1800 and 1000‑2000. All staff are expected to rotate between sites. Opportunities to work weekends as bank shifts are regularly available.

Main Duties
  • Supervise the operational aspects of people, processes and performance of the ERU Decontamination Service.
  • Direct and participate in the daily planning, prioritisation and processing of the work associated with the team/shift, organising all activities to achieve a cost‑effective, productive, high‑quality service.
  • Ensure routine testing of decontamination equipment at the appropriate intervals, analyse results and take appropriate action on any malfunction.
  • Line‑manage a team of decontamination technicians and decontamination porters.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a specialised decontamination of flexible endoscope service contributing to the clinical care of the patient.
  • Perform a full range of decontamination duties and be accountable for the work area within the department.
  • Manage decontamination records in own area of work.
  • Interpret and review technical data and production reports.
  • Provide a high quality and timely service to all customers.
  • Supervise, organise and allocate work and/or train less experienced/qualified staff.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications (Essential)

  • HTM 01‑06 certificates.

Experience (Essential)

  • Knowledge of decontamination specific procedures and policies.

  • Practical experience in decontamination – 3 years.
  • Knowledge and experience of supervision and training less experienced/qualified staff.
  • Evidence of CPD – Experience of track and grace systems in a decontamination environment.

  • 3 years minimum Postgraduate scientific knowledge within the Decontamination environment.

  • Knowledge of administration procedures and computerised software.
