Overview

DBA — Location: UK (Fully remote). Benefits: £50,000 to £75,000 + bonus, life insurance, health insurance, pension.

Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of performance, reliability, and security across large-scale, sharded databases in high-availability environments.
  • Support a healthcare tech platform rolling out a modern EPR system as a SaaS offering to the NHS; contribute to scaling and transformation.
  • Collaborate with a team of developers, testers, and sysadmins to ensure uptime and optimise smart architecture.
  • Hands-on DBA work with MySQL, Vitess, and Linux in production (training provided if Vitess is new).
  • Monitor systems with Prometheus and Grafana; manage shard allocation, replication tuning, and disk performance.
  • Handle backup, restore, and disaster recovery testing; perform data migrations and custom table loads for NHS tenants.
  • Execute zero-downtime patching and baseline performance assessments.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a DBA managing large, sharded databases.
  • Strong MySQL tuning and Linux environment skills.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting setups.
  • Bonus if you’ve worked with Vitess, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, or ArgoCD.
