Why Ballpoint

Ballpoint is a fast-scaling, strategy led creative and marketing science agency built for consumer brands who want to grow fast and grow properly. We combine creative, data and experimentation to help cool brands kill their competition.

As a team, we’re made up of people at the top of their game, all with exceptional experience and a strong track record.

Ballpoint started because we knew first hand what ambitious brands actually need from an agency: not big promises and account handlers, but operators who treat their business like it’s their own.

We’ve been on the receiving end of all the problems. So we became the solution. Today, every Ballpoint strategist is ex-in-house senior talent. The people running client growth here are the people who used to hire agencies, not career account handlers learning on your budget.

Our clients reflect who we are: early innovators, fast growing startups, and household names pushing into their next phase of growth. Each brings a new challenge for us to break through, creatively, strategically and through marketing science.

Why you

People who thrive at Ballpoint are self motivated and take genuine ownership of their work. They’re commercially minded and confident making decisions, with a knack for solving problems quickly without losing clarity.

Whatever their discipline, they care deeply about their craft and are naturally curious. We want people who are always learning, always sharing, and always raising the bar. They’re comfortable challenging others and being challenged themselves, and they know how to inspire confidence with clients and teammates alike. If that sounds like you, you’ll fit right in!

We’re scaling quickly and we want the best people with us on the journey.

About this role

This is a foundational role within Ballpoint’s performance and marketing science function.

You’ll be the person who turns messy, inconsistent, multi-channel data into clean, reliable, decision ready insight. You will decipher data into the kind that unlocks real growth, not just vanity reporting.

You’ll build the infrastructure behind our clients’ growth programmes, meaning attribution, forecasting, experimentation, as well as the workflows that allow us to scale confidently.

We currently have a strong fractional setup in place, but we’re building towards a full time in house function. You’ll inherit solid foundations and a smooth handover, then take ownership of our data engine as we scale.

If you love investigating data, asking the right questions, and using insight to shape commercial decisions — this role is for you.

Note that this is primarily a Data Analyst role, with space to lean into light data engineering where useful.

What this role involves

You will:

Data Infrastructure & Hygiene
  • own the accuracy, cleanliness and reliability of all performance data across paid social, paid search and retention
  • implement and maintain tracking setups across GA4, Google Ads, Meta, Shopify and Looker Studio/BI tools
  • troubleshoot data issues, attribution gaps and tracking inaccuracies quickly and decisively
  • strengthen our data infrastructure and support client side integrations
Analysis, Insight & Commercial Decision Making
  • build and own dashboards that help teams and clients understand what’s truly driving performance
  • support growth modelling, forecasting, MMM, incrementality tests and contribution margin analysiswork cross channel to help contextualise performance across the full ecosystem
Experimentation & Measurement
  • support the creation and analysis of structured experiments
  • validate results, whilst ensuring statistical soundness, and turn learnings into repeatable frameworks
  • help establish Ballpoint’s best practices as we scale
Collaboration & Enablement
  • work directly with our fractional data analyst during the handover period
  • arm the wider team with the tools, clarity and insight they need to make the best decisions
  • bring a calm, methodical, commercially minded approach to the data
Skills & Experience
You should have:
  • 3–5+ years experience in a data, analytics or marketing science role
  • Strong experience working with GA4, Looker Studio (or Tableau/Power BI), SQL, spreadsheets and data pipelines
  • Experience working with DTC or subscription-based models, including performance, retention and cohort analysis
  • Practical familiarity with paid media, Shopify data and multi-channel datasets
  • A deep understanding of attribution and tracking (conversion events, pixels, UTMs, server-side setups, signal loss, etc.)
  • Strong commercial instincts with the ability to see beyond platform metrics to real business impact
  • Investigative mindset: you’re curious, ask sharp questions and dig into root causes rather than surface patterns
  • A structured approach to troubleshooting and improving data systems
  • Clear communication whilst being able to translate complexity into clarity for non-technical teams
Desirable:
  • Experience with BigQuery
  • Python for light scripting or transformation work
  • Experience linking first-party data or building small data workflows
  • Familiarity with subscription lifetime value modelling
What does success look like
30 Days
  • You’ll have full context on each Ballpoint client: business model, growth goals, acquisition channels and key data sources
