Job description
Overview

Our Critical Care Unit is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic band 5 nurse with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for critical care. A visit to the unit is recommended to understand the role and the environment.

We work across sites. The unit at RHCH is a 9 bedded facility with approximately 40 health care staff; BNHH is an 18 bedded unit with approximately 90 health care staff. Your primary base would be BNHH. We are a friendly and supportive team admitting both medical and surgical admissions from the Emergency Department and the wards. We have an outreach service and this team works alongside the critical care team to ensure best care for our patients. We also run an established Advanced Critical Care Practitioner program.

Responsibilities
  • Support and develop colleagues within the critical care team.
  • Admit, assess and care for medical and surgical patients from the Emergency Department and wards.
  • Be involved in the outreach service to ensure optimal patient care across sites.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the department.
  • Engage with and participate in the Advanced Critical Care Practitioner program as applicable.
Training, Qualifications and Requirements
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • All new staff to critical care will attend the Critical Care Foundation Programme (CCFP), including simulation and online theory modules (mandatory).
  • Opportunity to undertake a university-based critical care course run by Oxford Brookes University after successful completion of CCFP.
  • Cross-site work with transport provided.
  • Contract requirements: some bank holidays, weekends and night duties.
