Critical Care Scientist

Here is an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Critical Care Scientist for a one year secondment.

You would be a working with a specially trained team providing scientific expertise and knowledge of the physiology and technology involved in the delivery of care to critically ill patients.

CCS's undertake scientific and clinical roles, including working directly with patients and providing advice to medical, nursing, and other staff in the critical care setting about the safe and effective use of medical devices.

Main duties of the job
  • Perform pre-use safety checks, functionality testing, calibration, and quality control on specialist clinical devices to ensure accurate performance.
  • Provide a first line troubleshooting and maintenance service supporting the critical care team at the bedside with respect to all aspects of medical technology.
  • Provide scientific support for the transport / transfer of critically ill and anaesthetised patients.
  • Skills to deal with occasional exposure to highly distressing and emotional circumstances.
  • Operate a wide range of medical devices used in the clinical environment, understanding their clinical applicability, associated risks, and limitations
  • Deliver training on a wide range of medical devices in the clinical environment to the multi- disciplinary team.
  • Provide specialist advice and expertise on all aspects of critical care science.
  • Promote the culture of safe and effective use of technological systems for the benefit and care of critically ill patients.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, carers, fellow healthcare professionals, external suppliers, engineers, and members of the public to ensure seamless and evolving service delivery.

Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant physiological science, e.g., Physiology, Healthcare Science, Biomedical Science
  • NHS Scientist Training Programme.
  • Registration with Health & Care Professions Council.
Personal and People Development
  • Experience working within a team.
  • Evidence of mentoring or supervising junior team members.
  • Evidence of training experience.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Currently working as a Healthcare Scientist with measurable experience in speciality.
  • Extensive knowledge of management of medical devices in clinical use Experience of training in the application of medical devices.
  • Attended specialist accredited training courses.
  • Knowledge of patient information systems
