Cover Supervisor

Location: Washington

Start Date: ASAP

Secondary schools across Washington are seeking confident, adaptable, and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to support teaching and learning on a full-time basis starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain school‑based experience, develop strong classroom skills, or take the first step toward a career in teaching.

Role Responsibilities
  • Supervise classes in the absence of the classroom teacher, ensuring students remain on task with pre-set work.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, creating a positive, calm, and productive learning environment.
  • Support students with their learning where appropriate, encouraging engagement, confidence, and independence.
  • Follow school policies and procedures, including behaviour management and safeguarding requirements.
  • Provide clear instructions, answer basic questions, and deliver learning activities set by teaching staff.
  • Contribute to the wider school community when needed, including break duties or basic administrative tasks.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with young people is desirable (e.g., youth work, sports coaching, tutoring, support roles).
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
  • Confidence delivering instructions and leading groups of students.
  • A positive, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting learners.
  • A genuine interest in education and helping students succeed.
  • A valid DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one.
