Job description
Job Purpose

To supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring that students continue their learning by following pre-prepared lesson plans. The Cover Supervisor will maintain a positive learning environment, support behaviour expectations, and contribute to the smooth running of the school day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise whole classes during the absence of teachers, delivering cover work as set by teaching staff.
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies to ensure a safe and productive environment.
  • Respond to student questions and support them in completing set work without introducing new learning.
  • Register attendance and report any concerns to the relevant staff.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on how pupils engaged with the cover work.
  • Supervise students outside of lessons, e.g. during break, lunchtime or detentions, as directed.
  • Support administrative tasks, resource preparation or exam invigilation when not required for classroom cover.
  • Promote the school's ethos, safeguarding principles and high expectations for all learners.
Person Specification (Essential)
  • Minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Experience of working with young people aged 11-18 (in a school, youth work or similar setting).
  • Ability to manage classroom behaviour confidently and fairly.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and equal opportunities.

Desirable:

  • A Level (or equivalent) qualifications.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in teaching or education
