Overview

Salary: £137,600 - £150,682 + £4,515 Car Benefit a year

Hours per week: As and when required

Role summary

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Corporate Director will provide leadership across a diverse portfolio including Housing, Adult Social Care, Public Health, and Customer & Organisational Development. This role is central to delivering the Council’s ambitious 2040 vision: a town where residents live happy and healthy lives, and businesses thrive in a vibrant economy. No one lives in poverty.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide strategic direction, drive innovation, and lead transformation across the organisation. You will work collaboratively with elected members, senior officers, and external partners to ensure that services are responsive, inclusive, and aligned with the needs of Luton’s diverse communities. You will also play a key role in shaping policy, securing funding, and delivering high-performing services that meet statutory obligations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction across Housing, Adult Social Care, Public Health, and Customer & Organisational Development.
  • Lead transformation and drive innovation across the organisation with a view to delivering better outcomes for residents.
  • Collaborate with elected members, senior officers, and external partners to ensure services are responsive and inclusive for Luton’s diverse communities.
  • Shape policy, secure funding, and deliver high-performing services that meet statutory obligations.
  • Navigate political and community sensitivities and influence stakeholders while championing equity and inclusion.
  • Lead safeguarding, health surveillance, community engagement, emergency planning, and climate change initiatives as part of the Council’s governance and delivery framework.
  • Ensure services are modern, efficient, and future-ready; contribute to corporate parenting responsibilities.
Qualifications & experience
  • Proven track record of achievement at a senior level with experience in strategic management and transformation programmes.
  • Experience in partnership working and ability to manage complex services and motivate teams to deliver excellence.
  • Ability to navigate political and community sensitivities, influence stakeholders, and champion equity and inclusion.
