Job description

Do you have catering experience, ideally within a care home setting? If so, we’d love to hear from you! We currently have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and caring individual to join our Catering Team at Middlefields House, our state‑of‑the‑art residential care home for older people in Chippenham, Wiltshire. Food plays a central role in the life of our home, and our Catering Team is key to ensuring our residents enjoy healthy, nutritious, and delicious meals every day. This role is ideal for someone with experience as a cook who enjoys working in a busy kitchen environment, and is also happy to support with general kitchen assistant duties when needed. You’ll help prepare and serve meals for around 48 residents and work closely with our Catering Manager to deliver an excellent dining experience.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, cook and serve nutritionally balanced and attractive meals with due regard to preferences and special dietary needs.
  • Observe food hygiene regulations.
  • Observe all minimum temperature and food hygiene regulations during cooking, reheating and serving of food.
  • Maintain the kitchen and food storage rooms, crockery, cutlery and utensils in a high state of cleanliness and tidiness.
  • Maintain all records when on duty.
  • Attend meetings and training activities as required.
  • Work as part of a team and be willing to take on any task, within your capabilities, to provide an excellent service to our residents.
Qualifications
  • You need to be someone who enjoys working with older people and can have empathy with them.
  • You must enjoy cooking and be able to cook and prepare food to a good standard.
  • A basic food hygiene certificate and a food‑related qualification would be an advantage but is not essential, as long as you have cooking skills and experience.
  • The ideal candidate would be someone with experience of working in a care environment.

£13.40 per hour.

Contract: Part‑time. Shifts to cover: 7.30 am–7.30 pm split into two different shifts. Bank shifts to cover for sickness, absence and holidays.

  • Cook – £13.40 Basic, £14.97 Saturday after 2 pm and Sunday, £20.10 Bank Holiday.
  • Kitchen Assistant – £12.57 Basic, £12.70 Saturday after 2 pm and Sunday, £18.86 Bank Holiday.
