Job description
Overview

The radiology department of York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Radiologist with sub‑speciality training in musculoskeletal (MSK) radiology. The role will expand specialist MSK reporting and intervention to support and develop the Trust’s imaging services.

Responsibilities and Duties

Reports and interventions across all aspects of MSK diagnostic imaging, including:

  • Cross‑sectional MSK CT and MRI reporting
  • Diagnostic ultrasound reporting and interpretation
  • Therapeutic musculoskeletal injections (ultrasound and fluoroscopy)
  • CT‑guided bone biopsies

The post holder will work closely with existing radiologists and may support the rheumatology MDT, the Spinal Infection and Arthroplasty MDT. The post is based at York, with an expectation to cover sessions at Scarborough (approximately one day per fortnight). It includes a commitment to general reporting for acute and elective cases and participation in the on‑call rota. Acute CT and MRI reporting is performed by a team within the acute reporting hub; all radiologists have a short or two‑hour weekly session as the duty radiologist. On‑call frequency is currently 1 in 15, with the on‑call radiologist covering 5‑9 pm weekdays and 9‑am‑5‑pm weekends (outsourcing used outside these hours).

Teaching & Development

The department is committed to teaching, supporting radiology trainees from the West Yorkshire (Leeds) and East Yorkshire (Hull) training schemes. It has strong links with Hull York Medical School, providing opportunities in undergraduate teaching and training.

Benefits

Access to a wide range of staff benefits including health and wellbeing support, finance schemes and discounts. A competitive relocation package of up to £18,000 is offered. A study leave budget of £3,000 over three years and support from the learning & development team are also available. Consultants receive an extra two days annual leave on top of the existing allowance as detailed in the 2008 Consultant Terms & Conditions.
