Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist – Forensic Psychiatry – Leeds
Salary: £99,532 – £131,964 per annum (NHS Consultant Pay Scale)
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time

Job Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join a secure forensic mental health service, providing specialist psychiatric care to individuals involved in the criminal justice system. The service operates across low, medium, and high-security units and involves working with complex forensic cases requiring specialist risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will conduct detailed forensic risk assessments and provide expert witness testimony in court proceedings. You will develop and oversee rehabilitation pathways for forensic patients transitioning to lower security settings. Working closely with probation services, police, and the Ministry of Justice, you will coordinate care. Additionally, you will provide consultation and leadership to forensic nurses, psychologists, and social workers, implement violence reduction strategies and risk management frameworks, and participate in multi-agency safeguarding meetings, providing expert advice on criminal responsibility and mental health defenses.

Requirements:

  • GMC registration with a CCT in Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Experience in secure hospital settings, prison mental health, or criminal law assessments.
  • Strong understanding of mental health law, forensic risk assessment tools, and behavioral management techniques.
