Job description
Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director (ICT)

Main duties of the role
  • Provide clinical leadership for the intensive community treatment (ICT) and day patient services.
  • Provide psychiatric and medical input to the care of ICT and day patients.
  • Develop and evaluate treatment pathways in collaboration with MDT leads.
  • Provide ED liaison for ICT and day patients admitted to medical wards.
  • Provide clinical leadership to the referral and assessment pathway.
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment for new referrals to VSEDS.
  • Work closely with MDT colleagues across the service line to ensure patient‑centred care, smooth and timely patient transitions between teams, and good working relationships with colleagues.
  • Work closely with external stakeholders, including the NL AED PC, to ensure equity of access and well‑integrated care pathways for all patients and their families.
  • Cross‑cover and collaborate with CYP and Adult consultant colleagues.
  • Active membership of the VSEDS Care Quality Group.
Job responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership within the ICT and Day Patient pathways.
  • Serve as consultant responsible for patient care within these pathways.
  • Diagnose patients with an ICD10 code at assessment and ensure that these are documented appropriately.
  • Participate in the weekly MDT meetings, providing leadership, supervision and consultation for the teams.
  • Consult other MDT members regarding the management of risk.
  • Attend weekly MDT clinical forum.
  • Work with the day patient manager, ICT team lead, and consultant colleagues to manage the flow of referrals, assessments, admissions, discharges and waiting lists.
  • Provide pre‑admission assessment and planning meetings for patients and their families/carers.
  • Contribute to CPA/discharge planning meetings as appropriate.
  • MHA work including MHA assessments, report writing, tribunals and hearings.

Vincent Square Eating Disorder Service (VSEDS) was established in 2002 and has developed substantially over the last 19 years. The majority of services are provided at South Kensington & Chelsea Mental Health Unit (SK&C MHU), with an out‑patient facility at Roxborough Road in Harrow. The directorate provides a range of specialist services for children, young people and adults with eating disorders across 5 London boroughs for CYP, 8 London boroughs for adults, and national referrals are accepted for adult inpatient care.

Specialist community CYP ED services are provided for the Boroughs of Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Brent, Harrow and Hillingdon. Comprehensive adult services across community, day patient and inpatient levels are provided for the Boroughs of Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, Brent, Harrow and Hillingdon, whilst tertiary level services are provided for the Boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow. Ealing and Hounslow have a secondary level service in the neighbouring West London Health Trust (WLHT) providing outpatient treatment for adults with mild to moderate eating disorder (ED).

Qualifications – Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with GMC licence to practise
  • Section 12 MHA approved
  • Approved Clinician status
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register (or expected within 6 months of interview date)
