A healthcare trust in East England is seeking a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to provide high-quality care. The successful candidate will manage inpatients and outpatients, and contribute to service improvement. Required qualifications include a medical degree, GMC registration, and MRCOG. This position involves emergency coverage and supervision of junior staff.
The post is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital site with provision of out-reach clinics. To ensure the continued delivery of high-quality obstetric and gynaecological care to patients within the Trust and community, enthusiastic candidates with experience in general obstetrics and a gynaecologist with a special interest in gynaec-oncology are welcomed to join the existing team of consultants and complement the existing service provision in general gynaecology and obstetrics services.
A range of general and specialist obstetrics and gynaecological services are offered, led by the consultants and supported by doctors, nurses and midwives. These include urogynaecology, gynaec-oncology, ambulatory (out-patient) gynaecology, early pregnancy assessment, colposcopy, high risk obstetrics and intrapartum care.
The appointed consultant would be expected to contribute to ongoing service improvement programmes, Maternity Culture Transformation, and elective restoration pathway by implementing evidence-based new ways of working when necessary.
The post holder will participate in providing dedicated emergency cover for the Delivery Suite (labour ward) and emergency gynaecology, and will be required to participate in the on-call rota overnight and at weekends (currently on a 1:10 rota with prospective changes). The post includes on-call sessions on the Labour Ward to achieve the desired 60 hours consultant presence recommended by RCOG. The post-holder is expected to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues as per policy. The appointee will be required to participate in day-to-day supervision, training and assessment of junior medical and other staff. Shared office space and secretarial support will be provided.
The appointee will be involved in the management of inpatients and outpatients at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn, community antenatal hubs and outpatients at the North Cambridgeshire Hospital, Wisbech.
