Job description
Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Respiratory consultant to fill a replacement post at Leeds TB & Difficult Asthma services at St James's University Hospital. The appointee will join a multidisciplinary team. The Leeds Difficult Asthma service provides tertiary and secondary care for patients with asthma. The TB service offers an integrated service including diagnosis and treatment of active TB, latent TB infection, and screening for people who have been in contact with TB.

Responsibilities
  • The post is full-time (10 programmed activities) with supervision of resident doctors and specialist nurses.
  • On-call commitments: Respiratory medicine rota on a 1:12 basis; contribute to Acute Medicine rota 1:109; contribute 0.7PA to flexible work to support General Internal Medicine.
  • Inpatient and outpatient duties at St James's University Hospital; cross-city outpatient facilities including a chest clinic at Leeds General Infirmary.
  • Perform bronchoscopies and pleural procedures.
  • Active participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and in departmental research.
  • Develop and sustain capacity of TB and asthma services, with a view to expansion, and ensure smooth flow from diagnosis to treatment and follow-up.
  • Work with the multidisciplinary team to develop innovative ways of working to sustain increasing patient load.
  • Contribute to Respiratory and Acute Medicine on-call rota.
Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK or equivalent; higher specialist training in Respiratory Medicine.
  • On Specialist Register or within six months of admission for UK trainees; other doctors on the Specialist Register as required by consultant appointment regulations.
  • MB BS or equivalent; MRCP or equivalent; Certificate of completion of Specialist training in Respiratory and General Medicine or CESR or equivalent.
  • Eligible for full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
  • Ability to work in the UK; GMC number clearly stated in the application.
  • Experience in Respiratory Medicine with special interest in TB and asthma; evidence of continuous career progression.

Desirable

  • Attendance at recognised management course; higher degree.
  • Experience in medical research and training undergraduate/postgraduate staff; participation in regular clinical audits.
Training, Research, Teaching & Audit
  • Evidence of ability to carry out medical research; experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; involvement in clinical audit.
  • Appraisal and small-group teaching experience are desirable.
