Glenfield Hospital, one of the largest cardiac centers in the country performing approximately 1000 cases a year, is a tertiary referral centre for complex aortic surgery, on and off pump grafts, valve surgeries including a mini-mitral service and adult congenital cardiac disease. The case mix is complex and reviewed by a MDT team consisting of surgeons, anaesthetists and intensivists. MDT discussions are supported by high risk assessment clinics in both cardiac surgery and cardiology.

  • To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
  • To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

UHL is fully committed to continuing medical education for consultants. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to departmental quality improvement activity and the clinical supervision of postgraduate trainees in Anaesthesia. The UHL Department of Anaesthesia is committed to working towards the Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation scheme of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
