Job Summary

Applications are invited for a 12‑month fixed‑term full‑time (10 PA) Consultant in Haematology to join a team of nine consultant haematologists at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. The role is based in a haematology department committed to high‑quality care and pioneering practice, providing high‑intensity chemotherapy and autologous haematopoietic stem‑cell transplantation.

The successful candidate will work within an active recruiter team, supporting an expanding trial portfolio and collaborating with major academic centres including the Universities of Bath, Bristol and the West of England. You are encouraged to further develop your own research interests and open additional clinical trials.

Applicants must be a registered medical practitioner and, within six months of appointment, be eligible for the Specialist register in Haematology.

Main duties of the job

Develop a specialist interest that complements the existing consultant team. Provide clinical leadership and, where appropriate, an honorary academic appointment with the University of Bristol Medical School.

As a consultant haematologist, deliver high‑intensity chemotherapy and stem‑cell transplantation services, support research activity, and supervise trainees. Candidates wishing to work less than full time may apply; the job content can be adjusted on a personal basis.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver specialist haematology clinical care including chemotherapy and stem‑cell transplantation.
  • Lead and support clinical trials, promoting research and evidence‑based practice.
  • Provide education and supervision to junior doctors and trainees.
  • Contribute to departmental development and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications – Essential
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • FRCPath or equivalent and M / FRCP.
  • Registration with the Specialist register for Haematology within six months.
Qualifications – Desirable
  • Advanced degree (MSc, PhD, etc.).
  • Sub‑specialty expertise that complements the unit’s interests.
  • Experience equivalent to UK Clinical Training and Competence (CCT).
Additional Information
  • Recruitment subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975; Disclosure & Barring Service check required.
  • Skilled‑worker sponsorship available for suitable candidates – an application for a Criminal Record Certificate may be required from each country of residence for the past 10 years.
