A regional healthcare provider is seeking a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join their team in Romford. The candidate will manage both inpatients and outpatients, engage in various clinics, and participate in 24/7 on-call services. Qualifications required include MRCP, CCT in Gastroenterology, and full GMC registration. The successful candidate will join the Gastrointestinal Unit within Division of Surgery with Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and GI Surgery all working together as one team thereby creating fantastic opportunities for improved care of our patients.
Gastroenterology at BHR is a busy and thriving department providing a broad range of services for patients with all gastrointestinal disorders. Jointly led by specialist medical and surgical gastroenterologists and supported by specialist nurses in many fields, gastroenterology services include rapid access to diagnostics for patients with potential GI malignancies through endoscopy and Faster Diagnostic Standard (FDS) clinics. BHR is a regional cancer centre for the diagnosis and treatment of upper GI malignancies and colorectal cancer. We are fully accredited for training in endoscopy and are a Regional Training Centre with JAG. We provide assessment, treatment and continuing care for patients with all gastrointestinal and liver conditions. The Endoscopy unit at Queen's Hospital is also a nominated and chosen site for the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Program.
The successful candidate will have a broad experience in the management of both Gastroenterology inpatients and Gastroenterology outpatients and will have to engage in upper and lower GI clinics and FDS pathways. The successful candidate will be expected to cover a minimum of two clinics per week, with a clinic profile of 4 new and 10 follow-ups. The candidate will also be expected to do a minimum of two endoscopy lists per week which will be in line with the BSG guidelines.
The post-holder will contribute to the 24/7 GI bleed on-call rota and will have weekend/bank holiday gastroenterology ward rounds. The job plan will be flexible, with some endoscopy lists on a regular fixed basis, and others varying dependent upon dropped lists.
