Role Overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Construction Multi Skills Tutor to deliver high-quality, engaging training within a prison education environment. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who can not only teach but also inspire and motivate learners who may have had limited access to education in the past.

Based on-site at HMP Ranby, you will work with small groups of learners to develop their practical skills, knowledge, and behaviours across multiple areas of construction, supporting them in achieving their qualifications and progressing towards long-term personal and professional goals.

As a Tutor, you will create a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring each learner receives the support and guidance they need to reach their full potential. You will plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons, helping learners build confidence, gain employable skills, and prepare for future opportunities within the construction sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, high-quality lessons in construction multi skills to small groups of learners.
  • Develop and adapt lesson plans and resources to meet diverse learner needs and learning styles.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that encourages participation, motivation, and achievement.
  • Provide regular feedback, assessment, and support to help learners progress towards their goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner progress, attendance, and outcomes in line with internal and awarding body requirements.
  • Ensure delivery meets quality assurance standards and contributes to overall performance targets.
  • Promote and embed safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion in all learning activities.
  • Support learners with employability skills and progression planning post-qualification.
Essential Criteria
  • Level 2 (or above) qualification in a construction-related discipline.
  • Strong vocational experience in one or more key construction trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, bricklaying, plastering, painting & decorating).
  • Experience of delivering vocational training to groups or individuals.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and motivational skills.
  • Ability to use a range of teaching methods to engage and inspire learners.
Desirable Criteria
  • Teaching or assessing qualification (e.g. AET, PTLLS, CAVA, TAQA) - or willingness to work towards one.
  • Experience working within an offender learning or further education environment.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by learners with barriers to education and employment.
  • Strong IT and record-keeping skills.
