Join us today to become a Conservator Volunteer and be part of the team keeping history alive by preserving our waterways. In this role, you’ll experience the many faces and locations of our beautiful network and help maintain our structures and assets. Whether it’s working on pre-planned maintenance, such as cutting back vegetation around aqueducts, or tackling graffiti in urban areas, our Conservators ensure there’s plenty of beauty on the doorstep. This is a great opportunity to make a significant difference in your community while learning more about the canals in your area.

Why we want you

Our Conservator volunteers help maintain our network, carrying out heritage and nature conservation activities, along with everyday tasks like painting or litter picking to improve the local environment.

They help address challenges on the waterways, ensuring accessibility and good maintenance of the canal. Each year, new challenges arise as we manage our increasingly popular spaces, and your support will help us keep canals vibrant and accessible.

Some teams work on regular tasks, while others focus on specific projects, such as rebuilding stone walls or planting, allowing volunteers to contribute in various ways.

What you will be doing

5. Creating new access points with building or improving steps or ramps
6. When registering as a volunteer, we will ask about any unspent convictions for risk assessment purposes.
