Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Community Maternity Support Worker with an existing NVQ 3 (or equivalent) qualification to work within a community midwifery team based in Torquay, providing cross‑cover to other midwifery teams in Torbay and South Devon.

The role supports integrated midwifery service with safe, evidence‑based care to women and families. Duties include clinical activities, administration, housekeeping and liaison with midwives. Tasks: new parent support, education, feeding support, venepuncture and newborn blood‑spot testing.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in provision of high‑quality care to mothers and babies.
  • Support new parents, offer parent education and feeding support.
  • Perform venepuncture and carry out newborn blood‑spot tests.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary team (Health Visitors, GP, Children’s Centres) respecting confidentiality.
  • Report any deviations from normal parameters to the registered midwife.
  • Carry out additional tasks delegated by the registered midwife after appropriate training.
  • Ensure safe care in line with Trust procedures, standards and policies.
Qualifications & Training
  • Level 3 NVQ / Apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Level 2 safeguarding children training.
  • Experience working in a maternity unit (desirable).
  • Breast feeding training (desirable).
Essential Skills
  • Ability to act as mentor to MSWs recruited into service.
  • Manual dexterity to undertake venepuncture.
  • IT skills.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, health & safety and accurate record‑keeping.
