A community charity is seeking a part-time Communications Officer to develop a clear communications strategy with members, volunteers, and the broader community. This role focuses on enhancing the charity's reach through multiple channels and ensuring consistent messaging. Ideal candidates should possess strong communication skills, a passion for sustainability, and experience with online platforms. The position offers a salary of £6,000 per annum for one day a week, with potential for fixed-term review after three months.
Transition Black Isle is a registered charity working across the Black Isle to address climate change, resource depletion, and the loss of wildlife through practical, community led action.
We support a range of local initiatives including community markets, the Black Isle Repair Café, an energy saving project helping residents adopt low carbon technologies in their homes, and the development of a Black Isle Library of Things to reduce unnecessary consumption.
We are now looking to appoint a part time Communications Officer to co ordinate our communications with members, supporters, volunteers, and the wider community.
This role plays a key part in helping people understand what we do, why it matters, and how they can get involved.
Working with trustees, staff, and volunteers, you will help develop and deliver a clear and consistent communications approach across all channels.
You will support the development of a multi channel communications strategy to increase our reach and impact.
You will maintain our presence across social, press, and broadcast media.
You will work with volunteers to produce a monthly newsletter, keeping supporters informed about events, projects, relevant news, and partner activity.
You will maintain and update the Transition Black Isle website, with volunteer support, including working with a new WordPress site due to launch shortly.
You will ensure that messaging is consistent, appropriate, and aligned with our values across all communication channels.
You will be a self starter with a genuine interest in sustainability and community action on the Black Isle.
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be comfortable working with volunteers and trustees.
You will have experience using, or be confident in learning, online communication platforms including Mailerlite, HubSpot, Facebook, Instagram, Canva, and WordPress.
You will be comfortable creating and managing online and social media content.
You will be able to work cooperatively as part of a small, values driven team.
You will have an appreciation of key sustainability issues.
Experience of working on community based projects.
Ability to network with, and knowledge of, relevant local stakeholders and community groups.
Part time, 1 day per week.
Home based, with some in person attendance on the Black Isle.
Salary £6,000 per annum, based on a £30,000 full time equivalent.
Fixed term, with a review after 3 months.
Applications close on 19 December.
