Overview

Job Title: BSL Communication Support Worker – Primary School

Location: Brent, London

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: £90–£115 per day

Working Hours: 08:20 – 15:45, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only

Do you hold a BSL Level 2 or above (or working towards it) and a passion for supporting deaf children with their learning and communication needs? We are looking for a dedicated BSL Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Brent with a specialist provision for pupils with hearing impairments. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong BSL skills who is eager to make a positive difference in children’s education.

About the School

Inclusive primary school for children aged 4–11

Dedicated Hearing Impairment Provision with specialist staff

Pupils may also have additional needs such as Autism, SEMH, or Visual Impairments

Uses a multi-modal approach: BSL, SSE, spoken and written English

Strong commitment to inclusion, deaf awareness, and community values

Role Responsibilities

Support pupils with hearing impairments in both the provision and mainstream classes

Use BSL to aid communication and learning

Work alongside teachers and therapists as part of a skilled, supportive team

Take part in whole-school events, deaf awareness activities, and training opportunities

Provide a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for all pupils

Requirements

BSL Level 2 minimum (or currently training towards this qualification)

Confident in using BSL in a classroom setting

Passionate about inclusion and supporting children with diverse needs

Previous experience in a hearing impairment provision or mainstream school is highly desirable – but we also welcome applications from those with BSL Level 2 looking to start their career in education
