Job summary

Overview

My client is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to join their team on a long-term contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a leading engineering business specialising in delivering complex control and automation projects across multiple sectors. The successful candidate will take a key role in commissioning automated systems, ensuring that all equipment and control systems operate to specification and meet client requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning activities for control and automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
• Develop and execute commissioning plans, FATs and SATs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues during testing and commissioning phases.
• Ensure all systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in line with design documentation and project specifications.
• Work closely with design engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver projects on time and to the required standard.
• Produce commissioning documentation, test records, and as-built documentation.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and site personnel.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures during commissioning activities.

Experience Required

• Proven experience as a Commissioning Engineer or Senior Commissioning Engineer within control and automation projects.
• Strong working knowledge of PLC and HMI programming, ideally with Siemens, Rockwell, or Schneider platforms.
• Experience leading commissioning activities from start-up through to project handover.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, control philosophies, and functional design specifications.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Flexibility to travel and work on client sites as required.
• Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical, Control, or Automation Engineering (preferred)
