About the company

My client are a leading groundworks and civil-engineering contractor operating across the South of England. They deliver high-quality infrastructure, drainage, foundations, substructures and external works for major housing developments, highways, drainage schemes and civil-engineering projects.

They are now expanding into Dorset and launching a brand-new office and region for the business. As part of that growth, they are looking for a strong, forward-thinking Commercial Manager to lead, establish, and grow our operations in the region.

The Role

As Commercial Manager you will:

  • Set up and manage the new Dorset office and regional operations.
  • Lead the commercial function: manage contracts, procurement, budgeting, valuations and cost control across multiple groundworks and civil-engineering projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors and supply‑chain partners in the region.
  • Ensure robust commercial governance, compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to high quality and safety standards.
  • Support business development and regional growth strategy.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience as a senior QS looking for a step up or a commercial manager within groundworks, civil engineering or civil infrastructure, however are open to a build background.
  • Strong commercial acumen: contract management, cost control, procurement, budgets, valuations.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to set up and run a regional operation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Confident decision‑maker, able to operate autonomously.
  • Familiarity with UK construction sector standards, compliance and commercial regulations.
