The Team

The Commercial Dispute Resolution team is a highly experienced and specialist group of lawyers with decades of experience resolving commercial disputes across a wide range of sectors and subject matters.

The team is ranked Band 2 in Chambers and has a strong track record of litigating robustly and successfully to enforce or defend clients' rights when required, whilst also exploring ways to settle matters quickly before legal proceedings are commenced.

The team handles disputes through litigation (the usual Court procedure), mediation, arbitration, expert determination, and other more bespoke processes according to sector or subject matter. Whatever the form of dispute resolution process applicable, the team assesses clients' principal objectives and then devises and executes a strategy to achieve them.

The firm is a full-service law firm offering Banking and Finance, Corporate, Real Estate, Employment, Family, Intellectual Property, Private Wealth, and more, meaning clients' corporate and business needs, as well as their own personal matters, can be managed in one place by a collaborative, connected team.

Due to continued growth, the firm is expanding its Commercial Dispute Resolution team and seeking an ambitious lawyer to join the team and develop their career.

The Role

As a Commercial Disputes Resolution Solicitor, you will work on a diverse range of commercial disputes across multiple sectors, providing clear, pragmatic, and commercial advice to clients. You will be based in the firm's Leeds city centre office.

This is a growth opportunity, and you will work alongside highly experienced and specialist lawyers, developing broad Commercial Dispute Resolution skills across a wide range of matters.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Handling a diverse range of commercial disputes across multiple sectors
  • Working on matters including contract disputes, partnership disputes, shareholder disputes, IT and telecoms disputes, professional negligence, supply chain contracts, franchise agreements, commercial contracts, banking disputes, injunctions, arbitration, mediation, defamation and reputation management, data protection and privacy, property development disputes, construction disputes, fraud and asset tracing, intellectual property disputes, property litigation, debt recovery, insolvency, and energy disputes
  • Advising clients through litigation, mediation, arbitration, expert determination, and other dispute resolution processes
  • Drafting legal documents, pleadings, witness statements, and correspondence
  • Conducting legal research and providing clear, pragmatic, and commercial advice
  • Building and developing client relationships
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the firm's full-service offering
  • Providing exceptional client service with commercially focused advice
  • Managing your own caseload with appropriate supervision and support
  • Staying current with developments in commercial dispute resolution law and practice
  • Contributing to business development activities
About You

Essential Requirements:

  • NQ to 5 years' PQE
  • Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales
  • Strong academics
  • From a reputable firm
  • Broad Commercial Dispute Resolution skills (not a specialist, as this is unlikely at this stage of career)
  • Strong technical knowledge of commercial litigation practice and procedure
  • Excellent drafting and legal research skills
  • Strong client care skills with ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
  • Commercially focused with pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  • Team player who thrives in a collaborative environment
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional client service
  • Ambitious and driven with desire to develop career in commercial disputes

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience across a range of commercial dispute types (contract disputes, partnership disputes, shareholder disputes, professional negligence, commercial contracts, etc.)
  • Experience with alternative dispute resolution (mediation, arbitration, expert determination)
  • Experience working in a full-service law firm environment
  • Business development experience or interest
  • Experience working collaboratively across multiple departments
