CNC Machinist (3 Axis)

Location – Wolverhampton

Opportunity to join, a trusted name in precision engineering and manufacturing for over a century. We’re seeking an experienced CNC Machinist – 3-Axis CNC Lathe Setter/Operator to join our skilled team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating CNC lathes, producing precision components from technical drawings and work instructions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare for machining by reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work orders, drawings, and parts lists.
  • Set up CNC lathes (3-axis) and, where authorised, create or modify CNC programs.
  • Machine components including rods and cylinders, inspecting raw materials for defects prior to use.
  • Carry out in-process and final inspections in line with company quality procedures.
  • Obtain “First-Off” approvals as per internal policy.
  • Maintain accurate records including batch cards, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and report any equipment issues.
  • Ensure work area and equipment are kept clean, safe, and compliant with HSE procedures.
  • Work independently and proactively, following all relevant SOPs, quality standards, and risk assessments.
  • Undertake any training necessary for the role and contribute to continuous personal and professional development.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
  • Proven experience as a CNC lathe setter/operator (3-axis).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Competence with CNC controls and measurement tools (micrometers, verniers, gauges).
  • Understanding of quality inspection procedures.
  • Able to work independently and take initiative.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Desirable
  • Ability to edit or create CNC programs.
  • Formal engineering or machining qualifications.
  • Experience in small-batch or one-off production.
