Job summary

A leading engineering company in Huddersfield is seeking a CMM Programmer / Inspector to ensure the quality of manufactured components through precise programming and operation of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). Candidates should possess proven experience in CMM operations, a strong understanding of GD&T, and proficiency in relevant software. Training will be provided where needed. This permanent position offers a work week of 37 hours with potential shift patterns available.

Qualifications

  • Experience with other metrology tools (e.g., micrometers, height gauges).

Job description
Overview

Due to an increase in workload, a leading engineering company based in Huddersfield is looking to recruit a CMM Programmer / Inspector to join their team on a permanent basis.

Candidates will inspect a range of machined components using dimensional inspection equipment (micrometers/ verniers) and CMM equipment. Training is provided where needed.

Hours: Mon - Friday, 37 hours per week. Double days pattern also available (6-2 / 10-6) with a 19% shift premium.

Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring precision and quality in manufactured components by programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to inspect parts against engineering specifications and standards.
  • Develop and write CMM programs using software such as PC-DMIS.
  • Operate CMM equipment and FARO arms to inspect first-off, in-process, and final components.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D models.
  • Analyse measurement data and generate detailed inspection reports.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to resolve dimensional issues.
  • Maintain and calibrate CMM equipment and ensure proper documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and inspection processes.

  • Strong understanding of GD&T and mechanical inspection techniques.
  • Proficiency in CMM software (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD models.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • NVQ/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with other metrology tools (e.g., micrometers, height gauges, surface plates).
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality standards.
