Job description
Overview

Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Nurse, or Practitioner needed to support patients with challenging behaviour in the North and West Dorset community. The role is part of the Intensive Community Support Dementia team and involves working with CMHTs, social care, and other agencies to deliver high‑quality, specialist interventions both in residential homes and private homes. A driver is essential; pool cars are available. The post is full‑time (minimum 30 hours for part‑time) and runs a 7‑day a week rota (07:30–20:00), with hybrid working options and a base at Forston Clinic, Dorchester.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical assessment, nursing reviews and manage a small group of patients.
  • Triage referrals and coordinate shift coverage with other Clinical Team Leaders.
  • Implement service changes in line with the National Dementia Strategy and the Recovery Agenda.
  • Deliver high quality interventions in patients’ own environment, supporting carers and facilitating signposting for ongoing care.
  • Maintain accurate timely documentation, including managing a virtual ward database.
  • Attend and successfully complete the Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course.
Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist.
  • Comprehensive understanding of MHA, MCA and safeguarding legislation.
  • Experience in community mental health/service delivery.
  • Valid driving licence; able to travel within target area.
  • Excellent clinical decision‑making and communication skills.
