Job description

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Clinical Research Nurse with a special interest in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team within the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Imperial Clinical Research Facility (ICRF) at Hammersmith Hospital.

The ICRF is located at the heart of one of the UK’s most research-intensive universities, Imperial College London. It provides a dedicated, well-equipped, and professional environment that brings together clinicians and scientists to explore disease mechanisms and trial innovative approaches to diagnosis and treatment.

We are seeking a motivated, skilled, and knowledgeable nurse who thrives in a team environment. A background in clinical research would be highly advantageous.

Although this post is part of the ICRF team, the successful candidate will work closely with both internal and external PAH research teams in a largely autonomous role.

Responsibilities will include a mix of clinical duties, data entry, and project coordination. The role also involves seeing participants in outpatient clinics, obtaining consent, performing venepuncture, and undertaking laboratory sample processing.

As we host a variety of complex and demanding studies, flexibility and adaptability are key. The post holder will also support studies from other specialities in ICRF and is expected to do shift work.

Key responsibilities
  • The aim of this job is to provide best care to volunteers and patients participating in clinical research studies in the Imperial Clinical Research Facility (ICRF).
  • You are expected to carry out procedures and investigations on research participants (healthy volunteers or patients) according to study protocol, Trust and local policies. Procedures include administration of Trial drugs, monitoring participants’ progress, continuous assessment of participants’ health, and collecting and processing blood and other biological samples.
  • You will also be expected to lead on some studies. This may involve setting up studies with the required documents and approvals, monitor and support recruitment, organise participants’ visits and schedules, and record, report and follow up progress and plans.
  • You are expected to supervise nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals assigned to and working on studies you lead on.
  • The post holder is expected to remain up to date with Trust and local policies and help support the unit’s quality accounts by continuous auditing and developing standards.
  • You are expected to continue developing yourself professionally and academically by utilising the relevant training and support opportunities available.
  • The ICRF operates a shift pattern that includes early, late, and night shifts with weekends off.

At Imperial College Healthcare you can achieve extraordinary things with extraordinary people, working with leading clinicians pushing boundaries in patient care.

Become part of a vibrant team living our values – expert, kind, collaborative and aspirational. You’ll get an experience like no other and will fast forward your career.

Benefits
  • Career development
