Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in Leeds is recruiting a Research Doctor to manage clinical research projects in Respiratory and Immunology. The successful candidate will ensure patient safety, lead recruitment and data entry, and work closely with clinical teams to conduct trials. Job description

Weare recruiting to an exciting new post of a Research Doctor in Respiratory andImmunology.

Wehave a varied portfolio of both academic and commercial studies across the 2specialities including, but not limited to the disease areas of ILD, Asthma,COPD, MND, Pleural, Ventilation and Sleep within Respiratory and HereditaryAngio Oedema, Vexus, Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria, Common VariableImmunodeficiency Disease and Allergy.

Thesuccessful candidate will work across both specialities and preferably haveprior experience in Respiratory Medicine and/or Immunology. The candidate musthave MRCP part 1 and have completed IMT1 training or equivalent. The successfulcandidate should be interested in and have an appreciation of the value ofresearch and GCP.

Thesuccessful candidate will be embedded in the friendly and motivated ResearchDelivery team based across St James Hospital and in our research clinic area inChancellor Wing. They will be delegated to work on studies under thesupervision of the relevant PI.

Theywill be responsible for all aspects of clinical studies, from pre-screening,identifying and consenting patients, medical examinations, prescriptions,review blood results, AE/SAE reporting, all of which need to be performed asper trial schedules and in adherence to GCP.

In addition to clinical research activities, thecandidate would be encouraged to undertake the NIHR associate PI scheme andwould be supported to pursue their own research projects.

Main duties of the job

Responsiblefor day to day running of clinical research projects, in particular for patientrecruitment, enrolment, follow-up and data entry and answering any queries.

Ensurethe safety of all participants through review and management of blood results,adverse events and protocol compliance.

They will raise the profile of our portfolio andstudies on the wards and outpatient areas and the wider community groups

Job responsibilities

To oversee the delivery of a portfolio ofinterventional clinical trials that test new treatments for Respiratory andImmunology patients. These will include a variety of academic and clinicalstudies from phase 2 to phase 4. Duties will include consenting patients intotrials, working with clinical teams on wards and outpatients, and working withour established and experienced research nursing team to support care andensure the safety of patients in those trials. The successful candidate willalso have opportunity to join Immunology and Respiratory outpatient clinics forthe purpose of their overall medical training and gaining some experiencewithin the specialties. There may also be the opportunity to support a range ofother trials within R & I where medical input/cover is required ,althoughthis is dependent on the size of the respiratory and immunology portfolio.

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
  • Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills, but do not have evidence in one of the above forms, they must provide alternative supporting evidence of language skills
Qualifications
