Overview

We are looking for a Clinical Pharmacy Technician to work within Urgent and Emergency Care at Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate or William Harvey in Ashford. The post is a band 4 to 5 progression role suitable for pharmacy technicians who want to gain experience in the emergency department, including newly qualified pharmacy technicians and community pharmacy technicians who wish to start a hospital career.

Responsibilities
  • Complete detailed medication histories using a variety of sources and reconcile with current inpatient medications.
  • Administer intravenous and oral medications within the scope of practice.
  • Counsel patients on new or changed medications to promote compliance.
  • Assist doctors and nurses with medication queries.
  • Evaluate the suitability of patients and their own medications for use while in the hospital setting.
  • Participate in the discharge planning of patients with ward staff and other healthcare professionals in both secondary and primary care.
  • Check the accuracy of dispensed items in the main hospital dispensary or satellite pharmacy within the acute medicines unit.
  • Carry out audits on the department to ensure procedures are being followed.
Qualifications and Progression

The successful applicant will need to display specialist knowledge in acute and emergency medicine and will be required to successfully complete the in‑house progression policy to progress to band 5. The post is suitable for pharmacy technicians looking to work in the emergency department and for newly qualified pharmacy technicians or community pharmacy technicians wishing to start their hospital career.
