Clinical Nurse Specialist - Mental Health Professional

Are you in a senior experienced band 7 and looking for a change? Do you have a background in acute care providing assessments and enjoy crisis work? Then this role is for you.

We are currently looking for people with excellent assessment and communication skills who perform well under pressure. The role of the Mental Health professional in ED is a fast paced and dynamic role. The team provide 24/7 input into the Emergency Department delivering high calibre assessments, formulations, and care plans for individuals. We provide an invaluable expert opinion into the care of individuals in emergency department.

We are a PLAN accredited service and the core24 team are part of the well-established wider Liaison Psychiatry service at Peterborough City Hospital.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Liaison Psychiatry Service, the post-holder will contribute to the multi-disciplinary clinical assessment and management of patients referred to the service in collaboration with other team members.

Providing and undertaking timely biopsychosocial assessments and risk management plans in accordance with CPFT's Clinical Risk Assessment and Management policy for adults presenting to the Acute Trust with mental health problems.

This role is a permanent, 37.5 hours a week vacancy for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist / Mental Health Professional wanting to join the established liaison psychiatry emergency department team.

The liaison psychiatry service is highly regarded nationally and is accredited through the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network (PLAN).

The service aims to offer exceptional standards of care to all patients attending Peterborough City Hospital experiencing a comorbid mental health issue. As such, an opportunity has arisen to recruit a dynamic CNS / MHP on a permanent contract who will work 12.5 hour shifts across a 24/7 rota.

  • To conduct psychosocial and risk assessments for individuals presenting in the Emergency Department and General Wards with mental health problems.
  • Provide a high level of clinical expertise in the assessment and care of patients presenting with mental health problems and self-harm in collaboration with other members of the Liaison Psychiatry Service.
  • Ensure that care is based on the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care that identify priorities and realistic goals and involves patients, their relatives and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure good communication with other members of the Liaison Psychiatry Service as well as general hospital staff about changes in care plans.
  • Utilise recent research findings in the advancement of best practice and in the delivery of an evidenced bases service.
  • Engage in Liaison Psychiatry Service educational and training events to fulfil requirements of clinical governance.
  • Provide support and expert advice to colleagues involved in the care of patients with mental health problems and develop systems to ensure that this support is available in a range of ways.
  • Ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act and other statutory regulations are observed and implemented within a medical setting.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or equivalent professional registration
  • Evidence of relevant post registration training and development.
  • Independent and supplementary Prescriber
  • Recognised training qualification.
Experience
  • Community and in-patient nursing experience in mental health services.
  • Considerable experience in the assessment and management of clinical risk.
  • Experience in the planning and delivery of training and practice developments to staff.
  • Advanced understanding of the mental health needs of adults
  • Specialist knowledge of psycho-social interventions and their appropriate use
  • Specialist knowledge of medication and the monitoring of its effect
  • Up to date knowledge of appropriate assessment scales
