Overview

Go back University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust

The closing date is 01 October 2025

We have a rare opportunity for a band 7 Clinical Lead SLT to join our dedicated and friendly stroke team at UHMB. This is a newly created role to develop the stroke-aligned speech and language therapy service and workforce across Morecambe Bay.

Clinical evidence-based knowledge of stroke, along with leadership and management, service development, multidisciplinary integration, facilitation of learning and practitioner wellbeing is fundamental. You will have compassionate communication skills with a proactive approach to problem solving and implementing innovative solutions within an evolving stroke therapy landscape.

As part of a national stroke service model for an Integrated Community Stroke Service, we provide input across the entire stroke pathway from hospital to community-based rehabilitation (home, care home, clinic and telehealth settings) through a multi-disciplinary approach to deliver a responsive, needs-based, holistic patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake a critical role in promoting collaborative working practices within the Speech and Language Therapy Team across Morecambe Bay. The stroke SLT team is part of the Adult Speech Therapy service at UHMB, which also includes pathways in non-stroke, head and neck and voice. This offers opportunities to be part of our \'grow your own\' ethos, as well as supervision, peer supervision and CPD. We run our own videofluoroscopy clinic.

The service is supported by an overarching Clinical and Professional Lead and aligns to regional peer networks and Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board workstreams related to Speech and Language Therapy, neuro-rehabilitation and the Integrated Stroke and Neuro-rehabilitation Delivery Network (ISNDN).

The ability to travel and work across Morecambe Bay, including hospital, outpatient, community and telehealth settings, is a non-negotiable element of this role. In the future, you will be expected to work as part of a 6 day service.

If you are a motivated, flexible and forward-thinking band 6 SLT ready to advance your professional and clinical development in a more senior role, or a current band 7 SLT wanting to consolidate your knowledge and skills within a new role alongside a nurturing team, we would love to hear from you.
