About the role

The post holder will work with the Clinical Governance Manager and Divisional Governance Manager to uphold the Trust Clinical Governance Agenda, ensuring patient safety, quality of care and patient experience are of the highest standard. The role supports the Governance Manager and Leads in the day‑to‑day management of divisional governance matters, contributes to governance meetings, supports agendas, collects data and shares information within the teams. The post holder may assess individual situations, some of which may be complex or sensitive, and identify whether issues can be resolved contemporaneously or warrant further investigation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a resource to clinical teams and managers in the submission of investigation reports of Clinical Incidents.
  • Provide a resource to clinical teams and managers in the submission of complaint responses.
  • Support the Divisional Clinical Governance Manager and Leads in patient safety investigations, complaint responses, sharing learning and collection of information for governance projects.
  • Support change and learning process through feedback and monitoring action plans to ensure the maximum benefit to patient care.
  • Collate information and draft responses to patient queries from PALS and the patient complaints team.
  • Deputise as appropriate for the Clinical Governance Leads at internal meetings and events across the Trust.
  • Maintain the Divisional Governance Trackers to meet Trust deadlines, escalating concerns within a timely manner.
  • Raise the profile of quality and governance across the Division.
  • Act as point of contact for the team, supporting delivery of Trust and National standards.
  • Independently compile reports, data analysis and thematic reviews and audit of compliance as required within agreed parameters.
  • Use the Trust’s risk management system (Ulysses).
  • Manage a caseload of complaints from initial contact (PALS/patient/carers) to liaising with and advising clinicians and senior managers, including coordinating investigation reports and complaint responses.
  • Format responses to complaints/concerns into high‑quality written responses, signed off first by the Divisional Governance Lead and finally by the Divisional Director of Nursing and Governance.
  • Maintain and update the Divisional Risk Register.
  • Work autonomously using own initiative in dealing with complaints and responses, guided by Trust policies and procedures.
  • Act as subject expert and contact for clinical teams to guide completion of complaint responses and ensure all relevant teams are included, interpreting policies and clarifying responsibilities.
  • Support the Trust’s Recruitment and Retention Strategy.
  • Attend meetings relevant to the role and represent the team’s views.
  • Contribute to the education, training and development of staff across the Division on the Governance Agenda.
  • Maintain an annual personal development plan, reviewed with line manager.
  • Remain current with professional practice and complete all mandatory training requirements in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate record‑keeping and confidentiality while performing all tasks and duties.
