Job description
Overview

This one‑year HPB surgical registrar post is intended for post‑CCT general surgeons completing their final year of training. Two positions are available, with the first starting September 2026 and the second October 2026. The role supports the HPB department and provides advanced training in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and assist consultant HPB surgeons across a range of services, including ultrasound‑guided interventional procedures and open and laparoscopic resections.
  • Develop competency in advanced laparoscopic biliary surgery.
  • Contribute to the delivery of an acute HPB service, including potential independent sessions under supervision.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team and imaging review meetings (three per week).
  • Engage in the unit’s research programme to enhance CV prior to applying for a substantive consultant position.
Training and Development
  • Advanced HPB techniques: laparoscopic liver and pancreatic surgery, minimally invasive necrosectomy, surgery for chronic pancreatitis, and complex open liver resection.
  • Comprehensive exposure to a caseload of approximately 150 liver resections and 90 pancreatic resections annually.
  • Nationally recognised research opportunities within the HPB unit at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
