Job summary

Job description

The clinical fellow will be required to take responsibility with his/her colleagues in the provision of a full anaesthetic service to the Trust. The clinical fellow will be responsible to a nominated consultant and the Clinical Director of the department and will be expected to work with consultants to maintain standards, education and develop skills.

DUTIES OF THE POST
  • Routine duties include providing peri-operative care for patients in the trust, including pre- and postoperative visits.
  • On call duties include providing anaesthetic services for obstetrics or intensive care on a full shift rota.
  • Duties of the post may be subject to change due to reconfiguration of services within the trust.
JOB PLAN

Resident 1:8 full shift. EWTD 09 compliant. New junior doctor contract compliant.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Two years anaesthetic training and service in recognised hospitals at SHO level or higher.
  • Some on call experience for intensive care and obstetrics is essential.
  • Applicants in possession of the FRCA, FFARCSI or equivalent will be at an advantage but this is not mandatory.
TEACHING, STUDY AND TRAINING
  • Allocated to individual educational supervisors, ensuring training and competencies are developed according to the RCOA guidelines.
  • Expected to take part in regular departmental audit and journal meetings and participate in Continuing Medical Education as required by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
  • Expected to attend and contribute to the weekly academic anaesthetic meeting at the Trust.
  • The Department provides reference texts, network computers, and a postgraduate medical education centre with lunchtime meetings for trainees.
AUDIT
  • There are cyclical audit projects available for trainees who are actively encouraged to participate.
  • Opportunities to present this work at trust-wide clinical governance and audit days.
