Cleaning Operative – Eastcraigs Primary School

Salary: £25,322 – £25,623 (pro‑rata for part‑time & sessional). Hours: 15 per week, 40 weeks sessional. Monday‑Friday, 15:00‑18:00.

As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council you will deliver a vital cleaning service across our estate, ensuring our properties are safe and clean places to work or learn. You will benefit from above‑market rates, excellent conditions, paid annual leave and a pension scheme.

Responsibilities
  • Empty litter and recycling bins.
  • Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture and fittings in a group of buildings.
  • Clean all sanitary areas, toilets and showers and replenish washroom consumables.
  • Respond to emergency and re‑active cleaning as required (graffiti removal, body fluid spillages).
  • Care for and keep all equipment used in carrying out the duties.
  • Carry out other tasks reasonably related to the role, including supporting cleaning tasks across other buildings where required.
  • Deliver to the cleaning specification requirements and cooperate with performance measurement so that agreed standards are met.
Keyholding

You will be a key holder, operating the security alarm system when opening the building, closing accessible windows and doors, switching off lights and ensuring premises are left safe and secure when closing.

Qualifications & Pre‑employment Checks
  • Regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
  • Join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
  • Overseas Criminal Record Check required for continuous period of 3 months or more out of the UK in last 5 years.
  • Unconditional offer of employment subject to satisfactory outcome of pre‑employment checks.
