Class Teacher - St Mary’s RC Primary School

Part Time- 23.1 hours per week (0.66 FTE)

St Mary’s is looking for a permanent, part time teacher to work on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in a Primary 2 class. St Mary’s is situated in a central position in Bonnyrigg. As a denominational, co-educational school, our catchment area is fairly wide, taking in part of Newtongrange, Bonnyrigg, Burnbrae, Poltonhall, Lasswade Straiton and Loanhead. We currently have 180 children in seven classes from P1-P7. We also have a nursery class, with 40 full time spaces for 3 and 4 year old children.

We are particularly nproud of our school ethos, which values the holistic development of our learners in partnership with parents and wider school community. All staff work together to provide an education which is both enjoyable and challenging and which meets the needs of all of our pupils.

Registration with the General Teaching Council and a satisfactory PVG check for Regulated Work with Children will also be essential.

  • Regulated Work with Children - This post is considered Regulated Work with Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.
  • Successful candidates will require a PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you. The fee for a Full PVG Scheme Membership is £59, paid via salary deduction over 6 pay periods. The fee for a PVG Scheme Record Update is £18, paid via salary deduction over 2 pay periods. If employment ends before full repayment, the outstanding balance will be deducted from the final salary.
  • Please note that Disclosure Scotland has changed the PVG certificate issuance. You will be notified by email when the certificate is available to view. You must view it within 14 days to share with your employer; otherwise a new application may incur additional costs.

Disclosures should be made in confidence to the Employment and Reward Manager.
