Job description

SENDhelp's partner school in Lewisham is seeking an outstanding Class Teacher (QTS) to join their KS2 Severe Learning Difficulties / Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (SLD/PMLD) class from February half-term. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work in a purpose-built, exceptionally well-resourced special school, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, supporting pupils with complex and profound needs. The school is a specialist provision for pupils aged 4-11 with SLD / PMLD, many of whom also have additional complex needs including autism. Classrooms and learning bases are thoughtfully designed to support autism and profound learning difficulties. The learning environment is fully accessible and carefully tailored to meet high levels of need. The school works closely with Lewisham SEN services and maintains strong links with therapeutic professionals.

Role

As Class Teacher, you will:

• Plan, deliver and assess high-quality, inclusive learning for KS2 pupils with SLD / PMLD
• Lead and support a class team, adapting learning, care and communication to individual needs
• Deliver a curriculum rooted in sensory learning, communication, independence and life skills
• Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, families, and multidisciplinary professionals
• Monitor progress through IEPs and personalised timetables, ensuring every pupil is supported to achieve their potential

Qualifications

• Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Has experience working with pupils with SLD or PMLD, or a strong desire to develop in this area
• Demonstrates sensitivity to communication needs, sensory differences, and complex medical or mobility needs
• Is collaborative, resilient, creative, and committed to inclusive practice
• Wants to contribute to the warm, nurturing ethos of this outstanding Lewisham school
